Dr. Mai Heath is an artist, wife, mother to three daughters, medical advocate, and proud recipient of the 2013 Go Natural Inspiration Award, 2011 Gathering Conference Poetry Winner, and the 2010 CytoMatrix Academic Scholarship. Her undergraduate studies earned her a BA (Hons) from Columbia College Chicago in 2005. She obtained her first doula training certification in 2012. In 2013, Mai received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, first-professional degree from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. After years of attending births privately, Mai served as a community based doula, case manager, and home visitor. In 2019, Mai was among the first group of birthworkers to attend birthing people through the Cook County Jail Pilot Program. More recently, she has served as group facilitator, program and design directors for various reproductive health groups in Chicago, IL.

Mai has special interest in harm reduction, violence prevention, and social justice. This leads her to focus on mentorship, restoration, volunteering, and family. She is the founding director of NDoula Community Alliance, a healing justice nonprofit organization. Her understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection shapes how she communicates in this world. Mai bridges art and science to eagerly share in others’ journeys as they access power and inspire their communities.

I believe wholeheartedly in mothering the mother. The therapeutic relationship is where healing occurs. Educating patients on how to steer their own health outcomes is a conviction I’ve developed after many years of work in education. I focus my energies on total patient care through the mental, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual healing process. Eagerly sharing in others’ wellness journey through individualized care and education leads to empowered and inspired communities. I have special interest in reproductive, perinatal, maternal, & family care. I look forward to sharing an experience with you!
